The Business That Stole a Life

Siya loved his business. He had built it from scratch—a small but growing marketing agency that was finally gaining traction. Clients loved his work, referrals were pouring in, and his inbox was always full.

But so was his mind.

Siya was never off. Even when he wasn’t at his desk, he was thinking about the next project, the next email, the next crisis. Dinner with his wife? He was answering client messages. Watching a movie? Halfway through, he’d start drafting social media posts in his head. Vacations? He brought his laptop just in case.

One evening, as he sat on the couch scrolling through emails, his six-year-old daughter climbed onto his lap.

“Daddy, do you work all the time?”

Siya chuckled. “No, sweetheart, I’m just checking something real quick.”

She frowned. “You always check real quick.”

Her words hit harder than any client complaint ever had.

The next morning, Siya made a change. He set a rule—no work after 6 PM. Business calls stopped at dinner. Weekends were sacred. At first, it was hard. But then something surprising happened: Nothing fell apart. Clients adjusted. His team stepped up. And for the first time in years, he felt present.

His business was important. But so was his life.

Lesson: Your business should give you freedom, not take it away. Set boundaries. Protect your time. Live your life.
